Russell to direct Bield housing policy

Housing and care provider Bield has appointed Graeme Russell as interim director of housing services. He is currently senior policy manager at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations on a part-time basis.

Admiral Nurses for Bupa and Good Care Group

The Good Care Group has appointed a consultant Admiral Nurse to support its clients with dementia receiving homecare services. Working with Dementia UK, Dr Penny Hibbert will work with health and social care professionals, care workers, family carers and the person with the disease to prevent a crisis and unnecessary admission to hospital.

Prior swaps CQC for DH

Chair of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) David Prior has been appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department of Health with responsibility for NHS productivity, taking up the post shortly after the general election.

Currie promoted to head up Castleoak

Craig Currie has been promoted to chief executive Castleoak and Dafydd John is now chief finance officer at the care development company. Mel Knight will move to the new role of executive chairman and will continue to head up Castleoak’s senior level customer engagement and take a lead in creating new funding opportunities.

Post-election ministerial moves

After the Conservative party won a parliamentary majority Alistair Burt has been appointed care minister. A former solicitor, his last ministerial role was as parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

SureCare expands business development team

Christine Dilly has taken on the role of business development manager for the north at homecare agency Surecare. Previously a service team manager with Housing & Care 21, Ms Dilly will also be responsible for rolling out the SureCare Local micro franchise offer.

Gen Lillywhite is new patron of TOSJCT

Lt-General Louis Lillywhite is to become patron of The Orders of St John Care Trust. He will succeed Lord Remnant in representing on the care provider’s sponsoring orders, the Venerable Order of St John.

Coleman takes on Barchester chair

Barchester Healthcare has appointed John Coleman as chairman, replacing Baroness Ford of Cunningham. Mr Coleman was chief executive of House of Fraser from 1996 to 2006 and has 14 years’ experience of serving on boards in the leisure, building and retail sectors.

Monitor strengthens clinical team

Dr Ruth May has been appointed nursing director at Monitor within its patient and clinical engagement team. Previously regional chief nurse and nurse director for the Midlands and East region of NHS England, in her new role Dr May will complement the clinical advice provided by the watchdog’s medical director and executive director of patient and clinical engagement, Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor.
