Global consultancy firm Bain & Co has made three new hires to its healthcare team in Europe. Sarwar Islam and Patrick Biecheler join as partners focusing on biopharmaceuticals and private equity in London and Paris respectively; and Giorgio Ortolani joins as a partner in Rome with a focus on pharmaceuticals and medical technology.
Islam has 25 years of experience in biopharma across consulting and as an industry executive. He brings experience in driving growth strategies and large-scale transformations for multiple global biopharma and off-patent pharma clients. He has advised many leading private equity investors on identifying investable assets in healthcare, due diligence and value realization post acquisition. Prior to joining Bain, Islam served as a member of the executive management team at Concordia International (Advanz Pharma) and was a partner at another consulting firm. Sarwar also worked as a research scientist at Abbott Laboratories.
Biecheler has more than two decades of experience in consulting and industry roles. He was previously a partner at another global consultancy and worked at AstraZeneca and Sanofi. Patrick brings expertise within strategy, portfolio management, and operational effectiveness.
Ortolani has more than 20 years of consulting experience across multiple areas including healthcare services, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. He has expertise in innovative commercial models, growth programs, patient outcomes maximization strategies, life cycle management and digital transformation as well as post-merger integration and cost reduction. He also has experience in multiple specialty areas, particularly in oncology and rare diseases.
“Healthcare is core priority for Bain & Co globally and in EMEA,” said Loïc Plantevin, head of the firm’s EMEA healthcare practice. “The healthcare industry is in the midst of unprecedented change and we are excited to continue to grow our highly talented team across Europe.”
