Vienna-headquartered health technology startup Medicus has raised €2.75 million (US$3.1 million) in a first tranche of Series A funding. A second tranche of €2.25 million is expected to close within a few months.
The funding round was led by DieBrückenköpfe along with Atieh Capital and Biopart.
Founded in Dubai in 2015, Medicus uses artificial intelligence to interpret medical diagnostic reports for patients and doctors. The company has expanded into Germany, France and Austria which is where it based itself in September 2016. Clients include Al Borg Labs in Saudi Arabia and Roche Diagnostics in France.
“We believe that healthcare is in dire need of a user-experience overhaul,” said Medicus chief executive Baher Al Hakim. “People these days are used to experiencing things in a much simpler and clear fashion, yet healthcare is still complex and impenetrable”.
Funds will be used to expand Medicus’ services in Italian, Chinese and Spanish this year.
To date the company has raised €4.4 million.
