CQC consults over excellence while critics keep rallying

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has this month launched a consultation on its new excellence awards through which it seeks views on the definitions which will used and the assessment processes applied in identifying these providers. Meanwhile, further details of how the watchdog plans to outsource the scheme have revealed that it hopes to see a number of scheme operating enabling providers of specific services to sign up to the most appropriate one. However, coming just weeks after an increase in regulation fees which was criticised by sector voices, the watchdog is fending off attacks which review its own activities as far from excellent’.
