Deputy PM hits out at ‘private profiteers’ threat in bill

Deputy Prime Minister Clegg and Liberal Democrat Peer, Shirley Williams wrote to all Lib Dem MPs last month asking them to support new amendments to the Bill. The amendments aim to tighten rules on competition or the impact of the use of private firms, within the NHS. In the letter they claim the Bill now: has in place safeguards to stop private providers “cherry picking” profitable, easy cases from the NHS, and we have made sure that private providers can only offer their services where patients say they want them.
