DH to tackle spiralling agency costs

The Department of Health has announced a package of measures designed to curb spiralling NHS spending on agency staff. The new rules will begin in the autumn and will include a maximum hourly rate for agency doctors and nurses; a ban on the use of agencies not included on approved frameworks; a cap on total agency staff spending for NHS trusts in financial difficulty; and approval for all consultancy contracts above £50,000.
