WHA claims down but profits up

Welsh Hospitals and Health Services Association, (which trades as WHA) the voluntary health care contributory scheme in its report and financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2011 showed that premiums were down to £3.9m from £4m in 2010. Claims paid also fell to £2.9m from £3m in 2010. With net operating expenses almost half what they were in 2010 at £764,000 (2010: £1.5m) the balance on the technical account for general business was £185,000 (2010: -£545,000). Once investment income and losses were taken into consideration profit before tax was £212,000 (2010: £42,000). The company is funding an ad campaign to build the WPA brand, enrol younger members and more direct members to compensate for membership losses in the manufacturing industry.
