His appointment comes as the provider looks to make acquisitions in Scotland, with the aim of increasing its portfolio by 50% over the next two years.

‘I’m very much looking forward to working alongside Sharifa and becoming integrated with Holmes Care’s local teams and supporting them to recover from the effects of the pandemic, with a focus on recruitment and ensuring the highest quality care at all times,’ said Wilson.

Lakhani will continue to oversee the strategic planning for the whole group.

She joined Holmes Care in 2014 and has steered the business to a portfolio of eleven homes across Scotland and England, employing more than 1,200 people and supporting over 650 residents. Her parents founded the company in 1982.

Welcoming Wilson to the business, Lakhani said: ‘His expertise in driving the growth and success of care providers, as well as his experience with industry bodies such as Scottish Care, will be invaluable to Holmes Care as we look to expand the group and continue to steer our homes through the uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

‘I am also delighted to step into my new role as chief executive officer.

‘As one of the few woman CEOs, and also a person of colour, I will also be ensuring that our homes reflect the diversity of the communities we support, and that every colleague is given the opportunities to progress as far in their care career as they choose.’
