Mary Wimbury appointed special adviser to first minister

Mary Wimbury has been appointed as the special adviser on health and social care to the first minister of Wales, Vaughan Gething.

She will be leaving her role as chief executive of Care Forum Wales, an organisation she joined in 2011 as policy advisor, this week.

‘Mary’s departure is Care Forum’s loss but it is a huge gain for the Welsh government, who will now benefit from her in-depth knowledge, formidable intellect and her unique understanding of health and social care in Wales that was honed at the sharp end of the sector,’ said Care Forum Wales chair Mario Kreft.

‘As a result, the First Minister and his ministerial team will be far better informed when making key decisions that impact social care.’

Wimbury told CM: ‘I am looking forward to taking my experience of the care sector, with Care Forum Wales, into my new role in Welsh government and I hope to make a difference for those who need care and support from the inside. I take pride in leaving Care Forum Wales a larger and stronger organisation than when I joined.’

Care Forum Wales’s senior policy advisor, Melanie Minty, will be acting up and the organisation is strengthening the team with two new policy advisors already appointed.
