Red House Care Home in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, plans to open Bayle – 24-bed community that will provide residential, dementia, respite and end-of-life care exclusively for females.

Women account for around 65% of people living with dementia, while East Riding is expected to see the number of residents aged 65 and over with the condition increase by almost 10,000 by 2040.

Bayle is being developed for women who would prefer to live alongside other females. This is particularly important for some women living with dementia, who can feel more comfortable and settled in that environment.

Residents will receive 24-hour personal support, medication management and care based on their health, personal history, routines and preferences. The community has 24 bedrooms, many with en suite facilities, as well as shared living areas and secure outdoor space.

‘Choosing a care home is a major decision for the person moving in and for their family. The surroundings, the other residents and the way care is provided can all affect how comfortable someone feels,’ said Leah Davies, manager of Red House. ‘Some women, particularly those living with dementia, may feel more at ease living alongside other women. Bayle will give women and families in Bridlington another choice, while providing the same individual care and round-the-clock support for which Red House is known.’

Red House is accredited under the Gold Standards Framework for its end-of-life care. It is also a veteran friendly care home, with trained colleagues able to support female residents who have served in the armed forces.

HICA Group is a not-for-profit social care provider delivering care homes, homecare and specialist support services for older people and adults with learning disabilities across the north of England.
