Peter Macleod is retiring from his role as chief executive of the Care Inspectorate next month following a period of ill health.
He has been CEO since January 2019, having worked for almost 35 years in public service. Edith Macintosh, deputy chief executive and executive director of strategy and improvement, will become interim CEO.
Macleod, who leaves on 10 February, said: ‘I step down in the knowledge that the organisation is in good hands and is ready to take on the challenges that the future holds, while always keeping people who experience care at the heart of all it does.’
Macintosh has worked with the Care Inspectorate since 2009 and has been deputy chief executive since 2020.
‘It has been my great pleasure to work closely with Peter over the past three years and benefit from his leadership,’ she said. ‘On behalf of the Care Inspectorate and myself, I offer Peter our sincere thanks and very best wishes for the future.’
