Skills for Care has opened registrations for its Moving Up programme, which is designed to support aspiring and new managers from a Black and Asian background in adult social care.
The programme, which begins in January, helps participants build the confidence, skills and networks needed to progress their leadership careers. It is open to people at all levels, in all roles and across all types of organisations. Previous participants have included professionals from local government, social care providers, commissioning organisations, charities, the voluntary sector, nursing and occupational health.
Running for over a decade, it has supported leaders to develop their leadership capability and take the next step in their careers. The programme was created to provide opportunities and support for Black and Asian leaders who want to fulfil their career ambitions and progress into leadership roles.
Combining self-directed learning with live online workshops, Moving Up helps participants strengthen their leadership skills, understand and develop their personal brand, increase their confidence and self-belief, and build valuable professional networks. Participants will also have opportunities to learn from peers, share experiences and explore practical techniques for overcoming challenges and barriers to career progression.
‘We’re delighted to be running the Moving Up programme again this year and opening registrations for our latest cohort in 2027. For more than a decade we’ve seen the difference the programme can make to people’s confidence, leadership skills and career progression,’ said Tony Barker, programme lead – workforce learning and development at Skills for Care.
