Statement recognises role of social care nurses

Andy Tilden, interim chief executive officer, Skills for Care

A statement of role, knowledge and skills for registered nurses working in social care has been launched by Skills for Care.

It provides a description of the position and demonstrates the way they contribute to national health and social care agendas.

There are around 42,000 nurses who work in the sector.

With an estimated 5,000 nursing vacancies in adult social care, the statement aims to provide a wider understanding of what the job involves.

‘This statement is a huge step forward in making sure we know what is expected of nurses in social care, but also recognises the massive contribution our nurses make to high quality care and support services,’ said Skills for Care interim chief executive Andy Tilden.

An infographic has been produced to people understand the role, while a short video is due to be created soon, the organisation said.
