Steve Brine elected to chair health and social care committee

Steve Brine MP

Steve Brine has been elected chair of the health and social care committee, replacing Jeremy Hunt, who resigned after his appointment to chancellor of the exchequer last month.

Brine, who has been MP for Winchester since 2010, beat off competition from MPs Stephen Hammond, Dr Caroline Johnson, Anne Marie Morris and James Morris.

‘Despite spending vast sums on health, we fail to reap the rewards in better outcomes. We need to understand why and to press the government about getting better value for our money,’ Brine said.

‘On mental health, we’re failing young people in particular and we could do so much more on prevention to help tackle deeply concerning issues around health inequalities.’
