Voyage Care sets out measures to improve outcomes

Voyage Care has launched a manifesto setting out measures that aim to improve the care sector.

Its vision includes establishing a commissioner for adult social care; developing a consistent and efficient approach to how care is commissioned underpinned by a long-term plan; and establishing a compulsory national register of adult social care workers.

Through the manifesto, it aims to improve outcomes, increase efficiency and ensure the care system is focused on high quality, personalised and consistent support.

‘We are passionate about amplifying the voices of those we support, who as working age adults are all too often marginalised within the margin. Much of the debate around adult social care continues to focus on older people, but a fresh approach is needed to meet the demands of this increasingly significant proportion of social care provision,’ said Jayne Davey, interim chief executive at Voyage Care.

‘We look forward to working with policy makers, politicians and likeminded organisations to make this a reality.’

Voyage Care, which supports 3,500 people across the UK with learning disabilities, brain injuries, physical disabilities, autism and other complex needs, launched ‘Fulfilling Lives for All’ at an event in Westminster chaired by Sir Robert Buckland, MP for South Swindon and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on autism.

Also speaking were Sarah Owen, MP for Luton North and co-chair of the APPG for adult social care, and Simon Bottery, senior fellow, social care at The King’s Fund.
