Housing 21 has completed work on a £9.3m extra care living scheme for people over the age of 55.
Filey Fields Court in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, offers 70 one- and two-bedroom apartments and has been built, developed and will be managed by Housing 21.
A housing and care manager will be supported by a care team, which is based on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist with any planned or emergency support needs.
Facilities, including a hair salon, communal lounge and restaurant, will be available to the community as well as residents.
Construction was led by Tolent, and is the fourth project it has worked with Housing 21 on.
Elsewhere, Poppy Dene in Peterlee, County Durham, has opened a show room. Once complete, the development will comprise 71 one- and two-bedroom apartments with on-site communal facilities including a restaurant, hair salon, communal lounge, gardens, and a guest suite for visiting family and friends.
‘We know as people get older their housing needs change,’ said David McGee, Housing 21 extra care manager for the North East. ‘When children move out the family home becomes too big; a sense of security becomes more important and health conditions trigger a change of priorities. However, people still want to retain their independence whilst future-proofing their home.’
The property, which is being constructed by Vistry, will open to residents in spring.
