Lifeways to open independent living service in Hull

Lifeways plans to open its first service in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, to support people recovering from severe mental health challenges.

New Cleveland House, formerly known as the New Cleveland Club, will provide accommodation for up to 10 people in their own independent flats when it opens in mid-September. It also features staff accommodation, office space and a one-to-one meeting space.

‘This is a significant milestone for Lifeways. Not only is New Cleveland House our first mental health service in Hull, but it’s also the first Lifeways service in the city, marking the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term commitment to supporting local communities,’ said Richard Cunningham, development director for Lifeways’ mental health division.

‘Safe, high-quality accommodation combined with the right support can make a life-changing difference. We’re incredibly proud to be opening New Cleveland House and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the people who call it home.’

The service has been developed in partnership with Hull City Council, Target Housing and Continental Gold Developers.

Originally built between 1904 and 1905 and used for employees of the British Oil & Cake Mills Ltd, New Cleveland House later became a social club in 1976, originally known as the Pearson Club.
