Malhotra Group grows portfolio with latest care home

Bede House, Ryhope

Malhotra Group has expanded its portfolio of specialist care facilities after completing a £10m development at Ryhope in Sunderland.

The project, Bede House, will be operated by its care division Prestwick Care, creating 50 full-time jobs and specialist employment positions. Prestwick operates 15 care homes in the North East.

Bede House has 68 beds, providing specialist mental health care for young adults, along with a brain injuries unit, which will include an on-site café, cinema, hairdressing salon and outdoor terrace along with a greenhouse.

It is also home to bespoke pieces of art, including an installation made from Australian driftwood, which was commissioned to go into the property.

‘I started my career as a care provider in Sunderland some 30 years ago,’ said Malhotra Group chief executive Bunty Malhotra.

‘It’s very important to the group that we have been able to create a specialist care facility of this standard in the city and have the ability to provide such high level of care, along with creating a number of job opportunities.’

Bede House will be officially opened by the Mayor of Sunderland Cllr Harry Trueman on Monday (6 December).
