St Mary’s Care Homes has officially opened Acomb Manor in York, North Yorkshire.
The 66-bed setting, which provides residential, dementia and respite care, is fully electric and powered through air source heat pumps and solar PV panels. It features en suite bedrooms across three floors, along with communal lounges. Other facilities will include an onsite pub and hair salon, gardens, and a programme of resident-led activities and events.
More than 200 members of the community attended an open day last month for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live cooking from celebrity chef Theo Michaels and music from local harpist Hannah Higson.
‘We were absolutely overwhelmed by the wonderful response from the Acomb community. To see so many people coming through our doors, exploring our beautiful new home and showing such enthusiasm and support was incredibly special for the whole team,’ said Clare Erskine, home manager at Acomb Manor.
‘I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable. This really is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Acomb Manor, and we can’t wait to welcome our first residents and become part of this fantastic community.’
