New Victoria recovers and plans expansion

The New Victoria Hospital posted operating profits of over £1.6m for the year ending 31 March 2012 in its first year as a registered charity following a tough few years which saw the hospital fall into administration in 2010.

SWIIS International profits fall

SWIIS International Limited (and subsidiary undertakings), the provider of foster, social and healthcare services, for the year ended 30 September 2012 saw revenue fall to £37.9m (2011: £39.3m). Cost of sales were lower at £22.2m (2011: £23.2m) although administrative expenses were up to £14.7m (2011: £13.9m).

Serco sells ‘non-core’ occupational health business

Serco Group plc has sold its occupational health business for £3.5m in a management buyout. Serco occupational health provides services such as absence management, health screening and health education programmes to over 450,000 clients in the UK. The business generated £15m revenue and £1m adjusted operating profit in 2012 but Serco said future growth would have been restricted under its continued ownership due to lack of synergies’ with its core health business. Serco had entered the occupational health market in 2008 with the acquisition of Grosvenor Health Ltd, with an annual revenue at the time of £11m. Grosvenor’s business and assets were subsequently transferred to another Serco company, Serco Limited, where occupational health became a small component of a large and diversified business support company.

Retreat remains stable despite challenges

Income at the The Retreat York, the Quaker owned charity whose object is to provide care and relief to sufferers from mental illness, increased by just over 3% to £12.8m in the year ended 31 December 2013.
