Cygnet has appointed Dr Salim Matta as group clinical director.
Matta, who previously held the role on an interim basis, has worked for the mental health and social care provider for nine years and has extensive experience in clinical leadership, service development and quality improvement.
A consultant psychiatrist and experienced medical director, he has led clinical, operational and digital transformation programmes across mental health services in England, Wales and Scotland. He has also been instrumental in opening new services, developing innovative models of care and promoting co-production.
Alongside his clinical leadership responsibilities, he has championed workforce development, helping to strengthen psychiatric recruitment, training and professional development opportunities.
As group clinical director, Matta will provide strategic clinical leadership across Cygnet’s nationwide network of services, with responsibility for supporting clinical standards, quality improvement and patient safety.
Cygnet group chief executive Professor Tony Romero said Matta had made a significant contribution during his time as interim group clinical director.
‘His experience, clinical and medical expertise, and understanding of our organisation, combined with his commitment to the people we support and our colleagues, make him an excellent appointment,’ he added.
Matta said: ‘I look forward to working closely with colleagues across Cygnet to further strengthen clinical standards, promote safe, effective and person-centred care, and advance our shared ambition of achieving the very best outcomes for the people we support.’
