Legal & General appoints medical officer

Tarun Gupta, medical officer, Legal & General

Legal & General Insurance has hired Dr Tarun Gupta as its medical officer.

Gupta will provide medical opinion on complex group risk cases to help improve decision-making and thought leadership on clinical issues.

He joins with more than 11 years’ experience working in the NHS in various roles.

Gupta has served as an NHS GP for six and a half years and has worked as a locum consultant in occupational medicine since 2018.

He is the clinical lead for mental health transformation and integration for Birmingham & Solihull CCG and has been a specialist advisor in primary medical services at the Care Quality Commission for three and a half years.

Gupta also provides clinical input into issues around implementation, relevance, and utility of guidance for primary care as a GP reference panel and committee member for NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence).

‘I am thrilled to join Legal & General and look forward to working with the underwriting and claims teams as they continue to build on the level of technical expertise they provide their clients and expand their proposition further,’ said Gupta.

‘The demands on clinicians are changing and I believe we all need to have not just up-to-date knowledge of the latest evidence-base for clinical problems, but also a much greater understanding of the macro environment our working age patients face to be truly effective,’ he added.
