Eye surgeons launch clinic in central London

A new private eye surgery clinic has been launched in central London by three of the UK’s leading NHS surgeons.

Based in New Cavendish Street, Ophthalmic Consultants of London (OCL) will provide a wide range of eye-related surgical procedures including cataract surgery, LASIK and LASEK laser eye surgery, refractive lens exchange and other vision correction techniques.

According to founders Ali Mearza, Allon Barsam and Romesh Angunawela, OCL is supported by some of the most advanced eye surgery equipment available and is the only clinic in London to offer the Z8 LDV Femtosecond laser and the Schwind Amaris 1050RS excimer laser for laser vision correction.

There are currently around 40 private ophthalmology providers in London, spanning both independent sector and private patient units. The clear market leader is Moorfields Eye Hospital PPU, which has almost double the number of consultants as its next nearest competitor, Optegra.

Alongside the central London site, OCL will offer treatment at a number of satellite locations across the capital and in Hertfordshire. All treatment will be conducted by one of the three founding partners, who have more than 55 years’ collective experience in eye surgery.

Founding director Ali Mearza said the clinic planned to take personalised eye care to a new level of professionalism and provide a model for collaborative working among the UK’s top consultant eye surgeons.

‘OCL has been conceived and designed to ensure excellence throughout the patient journey, from the initial consultation to treatment and aftercare. That’s why we have invested in the latest innovative technology, with a combination of equipment unique to the clinic,’ he said.

‘By pooling our expertise and resources, we can offer world-leading personalised eye care in a polished, welcoming environment with the best possible technology. The patient’s needs are at the centre of everything we do here with each treatment designed specifically for the individual.’
