Bupa extends comprehensive mental health cover for individuals

Alex Perry, CEO, Bupa UK Insurance

Bupa is launching what it has described as the UK’s most extensive mental health cover for individual PMI subscribers.

The new package follows the launch of the insurer’s Business Mental Health Advantage product for corporate clients and covers all mental health related to learning, behavioural and developmental disorders as well as addictions, including drug, alcohol, and non-substance related addictions.

Lauched this month in response to increasing demand, the new product is available for individuals and families, including children. Bupa has also removed time limits, meaning its members can claim for recurring and long-term mental health conditions.

Bupa Insurance UK CEO Alex Perry said: ‘Mental health issues can affect anyone, and early diagnosis and treatment improves outcomes. Our extended offering is a huge step forward in widening cover way beyond what was available previously, and ensuring that more people than ever before can access the right help when they need it.

‘This extended cover complements some of our other pioneering mental health services including Mental Health Direct Access, which allows customers to speak to a specialist without needing a GP referral. Fast access to a wide range of online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programmes is also available through Bupa’s wellbeing and mental health support service.’

The new product will be rolled out to all new and existing consumer customers over the next 12 months when they buy or renew their policy.
