Cromwell Hospital opens 33,000sqft extension

Bupa-owned Cromwell Hospital has opened its extension into the adjoining Lexham Gardens building.

The new 33,000sqft site will provide extra capacity at the Kensington hospital and includes an additional theatre for robotic surgery, a chemotherapy day unit, and a new upgraded radiology department. The redevelopment will also feature new technology, including x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and DEXA equipment.

Philip Luce, CEO of diagnostics and secondary care London, said the new space would enable the hospital to see more patients in an environment that prioritises comfort and wellbeing.

The extension has enabled Cromwell Hospital to double the size of its therapy department, with a dedicated occupational therapy facility, a children’s therapy area including a sensory room, and a fully equipped rehabilitation gym.

The hospital has also refreshed areas in its existing site, including opening two new cath labs and a ten-bed recovery department, which has been designed to provide a comforting environment for patients immediately after treatment.

‘We’ve been on a journey over the last few years to introduce the latest innovative treatments, technology and modernise spaces for patients and staff,’ added Luce. ‘The new extension showcases our commitment to this and I’m excited to welcome patients through the doors.’

The extension has been designed to align with Bupa’s ambition to reach net zero by 2040. investment in new technologies with improved efficiency is intended to reduce carbon emissions and the building itself has been rated as ‘excellent’ by BREEAM.
