London Bridge Hospital launches new centre

Professor Francesco Rubino, consultant bariatric and metabolic surgeon at London Bridge Hospital

London Bridge Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, has announced the launch of The London Bridge Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Centre.

The new centre will surgically treat patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and obesity, as well as related diabetes services.

‘Clinical trials have proven that metabolic surgery is able to treat T2D more effectively than medication and lifestyle management, and for longer,’ said Professor Francesco Rubino, consultant bariatric and metabolic surgeon at London Bridge Hospital. ‘In many patients, blood sugar levels return to normal within weeks of surgery, 80-90% of patients see a dramatic improvement in their glycaemic control, and 50% of patients enjoy long term remission – which is life changing.’

Janene Madden, CEO of London Bridge Hospital said: ‘At London Bridge Hospital, we understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treating Type 2 Diabetes, which is why we are very proud to announce the launch of our new Metabolic and Bariatric Centre.

‘Led by Professor Francesco Rubino, alongside a specialist team of experts in the treatment of diabetes and obesity, our hope is that the new centre will offer patients all over the UK – and internationally – a more permanent solution for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes.’
