PHIN publishes consultants’ fees

Information on the fees charged by consultants working in private practice has been published today by the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN).

PHIN began publishing information on consultants’ performance data, including activity and patient stay lengths, last summer but this is the first time it has included fee rates on its website.

The information includes fees for an initial consultation, procedure and follow-up consultation alongside existing data on consultants’ activity and the hospitals where they practice.

Under the requirements of the Competition and Markets Authority order, PHIN is mandated to collect and publish performance and fees data for all of the estimated 14,000 consultants admitting patients privately.

PHIN said it would be publishing additional information next week, including a comparison tool and consumer guides to help people compare the fees they’ve been quoted with the typical range of fees for a procedure across the UK and in their region.
