Practice Plus Group (PPG) has opened a new MRI suite at its Birmingham hospital featuring a Siemens Magnetom Altea MRI scanner with AI-enabled imaging.
The hospital expects the modular designed system to deliver around 60 MRI scans a month, with private patients typically seen within two weeks and reports returned within 48 hours. NHS patients can also be referred via their GP.
Delivered in partnership with Imaging Matters, and Assura – part of the Primary Health Properties Group – the new 105m2 suite was built off-site and installed as a continuous extension of the Edgbaston site.
Imaging Matters managing director Leigh Melville said: ‘The Edgbaston MRI extension showcases the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction in healthcare, delivering a wholly fit for purpose extension, in a shorter timeframe. This ensures scanning capacity can be delivered sooner, improving outcomes for local patients.’
Hospital director at PPG Hospital Birmingham Samantha Doubleday added: ‘This has been a strong collaborative effort with our partners to deliver a high-quality MRI facility that benefits both patients and the wider healthcare system. By expanding access to fast, reliable diagnostics, we can support earlier diagnosis, reduce waiting times, and help all patients move quickly and confidently through to the treatment they need – whether referred via the NHS, accessing care privately through their medical insurer, or choosing to self-pay.’
