Selene Clinical Research opens Birmingham hub as part of six-site UK expansion

Selene Clinical Research has opened a new research centre in Birmingham, the first of six NHS-integrated sites it plans to establish across the UK over the next five years.

The specialist clinical research provider, which focuses on women’s and children’s health, has chosen Millennium Point in Birmingham’s Knowledge Quarter for its first location, with plans to create up to 30 clinical, research and operational jobs over the next three years.

The expansion is intended to increase the company’s capacity to deliver clinical trials for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, working in partnership with local NHS providers.

Selene aims to address gaps in clinical research participation among women and children by developing trial delivery models tailored to these patient groups, which have historically been underrepresented in studies.

The Birmingham centre will seek to attract national and international research programmes to the West Midlands, building on the region’s existing clinical trials infrastructure.

Bridie Rowbotham, chief executive of Selene Clinical Research, said: ‘Selene’s mission is to make clinical research more accessible, inclusive and impactful for patients, healthcare providers and innovators alike. We’re especially focused on breaking down the barriers that women and children face in accessing the latest medical advancements.

‘Birmingham’s established strengths in clinical trials, diverse population and world-class healthcare institutions also made it the obvious choice for our first UK base and we look forward to contributing to the city’s strong innovation economy over the coming years.’

Millennium Point is located within the 210-hectare Birmingham Knowledge Quarter, one of three sites forming part of the West Midlands Investment Zone.
