Simplyhealth has added a private online prescribing service to its health cash plans through a partnership with digital healthcare provider Evaro, extending access to treatment for around 700,000 members.
The service allows members to request prescriptions through an online consultation without needing a GP appointment, telephone call or video consultation. Prescriptions are issued following a clinical assessment, with eligible members receiving discounts of up to 10% on treatment prices.
Available across Simplyhealth’s individual, employee-funded and employer-funded plans, the service enables members to complete a free online consultation at any time through the provider’s app or member portal.
Evaro’s regulated clinicians review each case and, where clinically appropriate, issue prescriptions. Medication is dispensed through the company’s in-house pharmacy and delivered directly to members, often the following day.
The service covers a range of conditions and treatments, including women’s and men’s health, gastrointestinal conditions, weight management, smoking cessation, allergies, hay fever and travel health. Denplan members can also access treatment for dental infections.
Simplyhealth said it was the first UK health cash plan provider to offer discounted access to digitally enabled private prescribing. It’s Access Gap 2026 report found that 52% of UK employees had delayed seeking medical care in the previous year, while only 12% said they could usually obtain a same-day GP appointment.
The research also estimated that difficulties accessing healthcare cost employees an average of 2.1 working days annually, representing a £17bn cost to the UK economy.
Simplyhealth managing director Sonya Bryson said: ‘We believe everyone should be able to access healthcare when they need it, regardless of how busy their schedule is or the barriers they face in getting an appointment…By introducing online prescription services through the plans our members already have, we’re making it easier to get treatment earlier, in their own time and at a lower cost.’
Evaro’s digital healthcare platform has served more than two million patients and offers over 500 treatments covering more than 80 conditions.
CEO and co-founder Dr Thuria Wenbar said digital prescribing could help reduce barriers to treatment and ease pressure on general practice.
‘Healthcare is the last part of daily life still built around queues, and the reality is there will never be enough doctors to see everyone face to face,’ she said.
