Zava launches £75 Covid-19 antibody test

Online doctor service Zava has launched a coronavirus antibody testing service, which it claims is more than 97% effective in detecting the presence of Covid-19 antibodies.

Patients are sent a home finger-prick testing kit and the results are available in one to two days. The service also includes a follow-up with a doctor if needed.

The company has partnered with one of the UK’s largest independent pathology providers, The Doctors Laboratory, where samples are sent to test for IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19.

The UK government is currently negotiating a deal with Roche to roll out antibody testing, initially to key workers, but it is unclear when this will be widely available.

Zava said its test is currently one of the most affordable on the market at £75, with a 20% discount for key workers. It claims that the test has 100% specificity and will only pick up positive results for Covid-19.

Dr Babak Ashrafi, clinical lead for service expansion at Zava said: ‘Zava is now offering both types of coronavirus test (a swab test to look for current infection and an antibody test to detect previous infection) and has the capacity to carry out several thousand tests per day. Zava’s proprietary digital platform facilitates the provision of a safe and clinically approved test service.

‘The service is fully remote – assessments and ongoing support take place without the need for any physical interaction between doctors and patients – removing the possibility of spreading the disease.’
