Ramsay Health Care UK has launched a staff accountability programme across 33 of its hospitals to strengthen its reporting culture and help safeguard patients.

Launched alongside professional services healthcare body Cognitive Institute, the ‘speaking up for safety’ programme, which according to Ramsay is the first initiative of its kind by a UK hospital group, ‘encourages staff to challenge anyone, including senior colleagues, who may be putting patients at risk with their behaviour’.

The private hospital group said it had invested in an ‘extensive’ training programme, which includes ‘assertiveness training’ and a feedback platform for staff to report positive and negative experiences in the workplace.

Dr Andy Jones, chief executive of Ramsay Health Care UK, said: ‘We are thrilled to be leading the way in the UK as the first hospital group to introduce the programme and are proud to have an excellent team supporting the initiative.

‘We are committed to providing the highest levels of safety across the hospitals and protecting our patients and staff to the greatest standard.’
