AYUSH visa to build India’s traditional medicine sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the launch of a special AYUSH visa category for foreign individuals who want to visit India to benefit from traditional medicine. Europe is a key target market.

India has a new special category of AYUSH visas for tourists visiting India for medical tourism or treatment. AYUSH stands for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy treatments in traditional medicine that are all practised in India.

The current government’s strategy is to promote AYUSH medical travel under the banner of Heal in India.  A significant component of this new initiative is the AYUSH visa. Practitioners of AYUSH and contemporary medicine will collaborate and to guarantee high quality across the board, products will be stamped with an AYUSH mark, details of which will be released soon.

A dedicated portal has also been launched for the recently formed AYUSH Export Promotion Council.

The government is also set to create a network of AYUSH Parks to encourage research and boost indigenous manufacturing of traditional medicinal products.
