Clinic sees significant increase in activity in 2017

The UK cosmetic surgery market was buoyant in 2017, according to MYA Cosmetic Surgery. The clinic also says the market is going through a period of change, with changes of ownership and some businesses heavily discounting treatments.

MYA Cosmetic Surgery, which has a network of clinics and hospitals across the UK, reported an 14% jump in turnover to £21.5m in the year ended 30 September 2017 on the back of a ‘significant increase’ in activity, particularly in the second half.

The directors said investment and a focus on clinical excellence and transparency stood it in good stead to build on the 2017 performance.

Director Esta Rea said: “Cosmetic surgery is going through a period of change with many of the volume providers having changed ownership over the last few years, however, MYA has maintained the same principle ownership since 2007. This has led to different companies applying different tactics to take market share, including heavily discounting surgery rather than focusing on a quality proposition.

“The company is not standing still and is investing heavily in developing a patient centric business which it believes is essential to meet the expectations of modern day private healthcare patients. This has required significant change management which at times has impacted on business growth and efficiency but is essential to be highly competitive in the future.”
