Norwegian based DNV GL is one of the top three management system certification bodies in the world. The competition authorities in South Korea, the USA, the EU and China have cleared the merger between the two well-regarded companies, both of which will soon celebrate 150 years of independent operations. The new company, formally called DNV GL Group, will have 17,000 employees across 300 sites in more than 100 countries, and revenues of EUR 2,500 million per year.

Henrik Madsen of DNC GL says,‘This consolidation of two classification societies will be a global game changer. DNV GL will be uniquely positioned to offer a broader set of products and services, more in-depth expertise and a denser global network of sites second to none. And there is a strong commitment by both DNV and GL to the merged company continuing to invest heavily in technology, research and innovation.”

DNV GL Healthcare is a global certification body that helps businesses achieve excellence by improving quality and patient safety through hospital accreditation, managing infection risk, management system certification and training.

Over 500 hospitals across the US have chosen DNV Healthcare for an approach to accreditation that focuses on quality, innovation and continual improvement. DNV Accreditation requires an annual survey and the organization’s continual compliance with the DNV accreditation process. DNV’s pioneering NIAHO program integrates ISO 9001 with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

DNV GL has launched a global Managing Infection Risk (MIR) Certification programme –the first and only global hospital certification for excellence in managing infection risk. Hospitals around the world are grappling with the rising costs – both in terms of patient outcomes and funding – of healthcare associated infections and emerging pandemic risks. DNV GL surveyors work with hospitals to better understand their strengths, identify any safety gaps, and improve their current processes to more effectively and comprehensively reduce the risk of infection and improve patient and staff safety.

The first two hospitals in the world to receive the MIR Center of Excellence are USA hospitals, Sentara Leigh and Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospitals in Virginia.
