Dubai develops health checks and tests programmes

Dubai is developing as a destination for preventative healthcare, with growing numbers of tourists travelling to the city from around the region for DNA screening and food intolerance testing.

Local clinics are getting more people seeking preventative treatments, such as health screenings and check-ups, and for holistic treatments. Some report one in ten patients from outside of Dubai- almost all from within the Gulf.

The DNA Centre for Integrative Health and Wellness moved from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, to get better access to regional customers.

The region has rising health problems, particularly on obesity and diabetes, due to a Westernised lifestyle and diet. DNA screening can show up the likelihood of conditions such as cancer and Alzheimer’s, while younger families seek general health checks and lifestyle planning. The clinic is seeing customers with chronic conditions, food intolerances and chronic fatigue.

The Dubai Herbal Treatment Centre is getting more people travelling for wellness treatments and preventive care are with most patients from the GCC and a few patients from developing economies such as Pakistan and Kazakhstan.

Acupuncture and herbal treatment are popular as are holistic treatments, and patients with chronic conditions where normal medicine cannot offer much relief, such as insomnia, chronic pains, issues such as food intolerance and digestive conditions.
