€3.8bn European Commission funding has now been granted to launch the Adriatic Health Tourism Platform. The new platform will promote health and medical tourism to Croatia, Montenegro and other Adriatic countries. At present the only government supporting the project is Croatia.
Medical Group, a Croatian medical tourism consultancy, has obtained €3.8 billion of European Commission funding to develop and launch the Adriatic Health Tourism Platform.
The new platform will promote health and medical tourism to Croatia, Montenegro and other Adriatic countries. It defines the strategic direction of the Adriatic Region for healthcare infrastructure and health tourism, and aims to brand the Adriatic region as a year-round tourist region of Europe.
Countries with coasts on the Adriatic are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro and Slovenia. At present the only government supporting the project is Croatia.
The region is seeing public and private investment in new health tourism projects plus the infrastructure to support them. The platform offers a programme for financing investment projects for health tourism across the Adriatic region, from 2020. It is hoped that projects will be developed and completed faster than at present.
US investors Blackard Global are also partnering with locals in a €500 million development on the island of Pasman. The Croatia-Pasman Riviera Global Tourism project will offer shoreline health, sports and active tourism. As well as hotels and apartments the four-star facility will also have, by 2022, a range of leisure and entertainment services.
