Health City Cayman Islands (HCCI) has closed, initially for two weeks, as it quarantined all medical and hospital staff, and their families that came into contact with Cayman’s first confirmed COVID-19 case, a patient at the hospital.
A 68-year-old Italian patient required life-saving cardiac care, having transferred from a cruise ship to HCCI. He was confirmed as Cayman’s first recorded COVID-19 positive patient, and died from coronavirus-related complications. All hospital workers have been tested.
The Cayman government had been allowing cruise ship passengers on shore despite coronavirus concerns, however all cruise ships are now banned going to local Cayman Island shores.
