The Indian state of Kerala seeks to improve medical tourism opportunities with major hospitals seeking JCI accreditation.
It already has a global appeal as an Ayurvedic tourism destination, but Kerala wants to increase medical tourism. Leading hospitals in the state are going for Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

Sheik Pareeth of Tourism Kerala explains, “Kochi’s leading hospital, Aster Medicity has just received JCI accreditation and other prominent hospital chains are in the process of obtaining this certification. This will give a big boost to Kerala to become a medical tourism destination in the future.”

JCI accreditation does help hospitals improve quality, but globally there has yet to be any proof that JCI accreditation increases medical tourism numbers to any hospital, state or country.
