Khyber province targets Afghan medical tourists

The provincial government of Khyber is taking steps to promote medical tourism. Pakistan’s state government is also developing a medical visa to enable Afghan medical tourists to use hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Afghan nationals are already given treatment in all hospitals of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, usually for free as the hospitals treat them as locals.

A new Pak-Afghan bilateral trade is in the larger interest of both countries and the Torkham border is normally the busiest international border crossing. At the border, free COVID-19 tests have to be taken by all those entering into Pakistan or crossing the border into Afghanistan. This now includes an antigen rapid diagnostic test.

Work is progressing on the Peshawar-Torkam Motorway project that will improve international trade in the region.
