Malaysia: Penang Islamic Hospital to open in 2020

Sharia compliant Islamic hospital will open in 2020 in Penang.

The Penang Islamic Foundation, in collaboration with the Penang Islamic Religious Council, is building the Penang Islamic Hospital costing RM280 million in Bayan Baru.

Construction on the 200-bed hospital has begun and the 14-storey hospital will have specialists in paediatrics, gynaecology, surgery and cardiology, and have a seven-storey car park with 600 bays.

It is a sharia-compliant hospital and is expected to begin operations in early 2020. The An-Nur Specialist Hospital in Selangor will run it.

The hospital will cater to rising demand for healthcare services from local residents, as well as foreigners going to Penang for medical treatment.

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council found that 60% of medical tourists chose Penang.

The hospital will cater for Muslims and non-Muslims seeking affordable medical treatment.
