Malaysian medical tourist hospital adds 500 beds

Mahkota Medical Centre Malacca, the largest private hospital in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia, is investing RM200mil to build a new 500-bed hospital block adjacent to the existing 270-bed hospital building.

The new building will take two to four years is needed due to the growth in the number of patients of 6% a year.

Mahkota Medical, owned by Health Management International, has more than 300,000 patients annually of whom more than 30% are foreigners, mainly from Indonesia.

The hospital is getting more medical tourists each year as people choose Malaysia over the increasingly pricy Singapore.
