Malaysia’s Medi-Tech city

The Penang Development Corp and a top property developer in Malaysia are planning to develop a Medi-Tech City in Batu Kawan, Penang. The aim is that it will be an integrated, sustainable and hi-technology medical city in Penang.

The project is expected to complete in ten years. Upon its completion, Medi-Tech City will serve as a medical hub providing eco-tourism and global business services with facilities including hospitals, a medical campus, a medical supply hub, corporate suites, a rehabilitation centre, a retirement village, hotel, wellness centre, sports centre, electrical and electronics sectors, logistics and a distribution hub.

Malaysia’s healthcare sector is expected to grow to US$30 billion by 2027, with potential in the areas of medical tourism, the manufacturing of medical devices, pharmaceuticals and clinical research.

Malaysia has now relaxed entry procedures for vaccine boosted travellers and will soon do away with temperature checks when entering premises as the country prepares to move into the endemic stage of Covid-19.

Vaccinated travellers who have yet to receive a booster shot will need to serve a seven-day quarantine, while those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated will need to serve 10 days.

Arrivals from abroad will be given a digital Home Surveillance Order and will not need to wear the usual surveillance bracelets. However, travellers from high-risk countries will need to have their surveillance bracelets on.
