Medical booking site BookDoc has launched in Malaysia and will open in three other countries soon. The services of BookDoc are free to patients through its website, and its App which can be downloaded free from Google Play and App Store.
Founded in July 2015 by Dato’ Chevy Beh and Joel Neoh, BookDoc is an online healthcare platform that connects patients and healthcare professionals– locals, tourists and medical tourists. The platform links up patients with those who can assist anywhere. Now present in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, BookDoc is planning to open in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines over the next few months.
The Brunei royal family has invested heavily in the start-up, with the money used to expand its workforce, fund the second phase of its technological development and strengthen the infrastructure to support regional growth. Total funding from them and other investors is undisclosed but is believed to be over $10 million.
There are now dozens of national and multi country tech based websites all competing to connect patients with healthcare providers. The newer ones allow patients – whether medical tourists, locals or travellers – to book direct online. Information only websites will have to offer instant booking to survive, while how many of these massively funded booking services can thrive long-term is an open question.
