Pakistan introduces medical visa for health emergencies

Pakistan has introduced a medical visa, easing rules for people seeking entry to the country for health emergencies. The federal cabinet approved the new visa last month as part of a revamp of all visa categories.

Under the new guidelines, security clearance will not be required for those seeking a short-term medical visa.

Applicants can apply online and will receive authorisation on email.

Since those visiting the country to get medical treatment can only go to certain authorised hospitals, the government has decided that risks are minimal as security checks are already in place.

A short-term medical visa of up to three months can be issued to an individual, family and attendant. The visa will be issued within 48 hours of the application’s submission.

An extended medical visa of up to one year has also been promised.
