Travel health insurance advised for Singapore

As Singapore reopens it is not compulsory for entrants to buy travel health insurance, but it would be foolish not to.

All foreign travellers in Singapore are required to bear the full cost of medical treatment, tests and isolation in case of suspected or actual infection of COVID-19 in Singapore. The Ministry of Health estimates based on hospital costs that this would be around SG$30,000 (US$23,000).

Singapore is selling COVID-19 insurance to short-term visitors. In conjunction with the Singapore Tourism Board, Changi Airport Group offers ChangiAssure underwritten by HL Assurance. This is on behalf of the Emerging Stronger Taskforce Alliance for Action on Enabling Safe and Innovative Visitor Experiences. The organisers say that inbound insurance has been identified as a key enabler to allow the resumption of travel to Singapore.

The alliance also worked with the General Insurance Association of Singapore to involve private insurers: AIG Asia Pacific Insurance, Chubb Insurance Singapore, and HL Assurance. The three insurers have developed travel insurance products which provide at least SG$30,000 in cover for COVID-19 related medical treatment and hospitalisation costs.
