Uzbekistan: Aakash Health buys Tashkent hospital

A large number of medical tourists from Uzbekistan visit India for advanced treatment, which has prompted an Indian hospital group to enter the market.  New Delhi based Aakash Healthcare has opened a new Asia Med Centre in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent as part of a global expansion.

The upgraded 60-bedded Asia Med Centre multi-speciality hospital was opened to the public in November. Aakash Healthcare is also planning to expand to South Asia and Dubai, through its sister concern ANVKA Healthcare.

The company original approached Uzbek officials, who initially offered them two ex-Soviet Union government hospitals in poor condition.  Instead, Aakash started exploring in the private sector and, finding a low quality of care lacking in medicines, expertise and equipment, decided to build the facilities from scratch.
