What next for Cuba?

President-Elect Donald Trump has threatened to end the deals made by President Obama. In one of Trump’s late night tweets he threatened to put an end to the closer relations between Cuba and the USA.

Cuba may want American tourists, but is unlikely to give in to US bullying, so we have to watch developments.

Americans cannot legally be medical tourists in Cuba and while some want American medical tourist dollars, it could upset existing sources.

Cuba does want to develop tourism and three days after Fidel Castro’s death, the first commercial flight between the United States and Havana took place.

A signed trade deal between the European Union and Cuba has strengthened links. French hotel chains are developing tourism infrastructures on the island, which are currently insufficient in the face of an expanding American demand. French companies are supervising the renovations of Havana’s airport, as well as the construction of the new port of Mariel.

Canada accounts for 40% of all tourism with 1.3 million tourists a year, and some of these are medical tourists. With higher demand, hotel prices have gone up. Canadians have increasingly been spending more to visit the island as resorts switched pricing to U.S. dollars in preparation for a flood of American tourists.

All medical tourism on the island is state controlled and the view is that they got along well for 50 years without Americans, so are not at all worried about threats from Trump.
