Extra care funding recipients announced

Care Minister Norman Lamb has revealed which supported living housing providers which will receive a slice of a £100m funding pot designed develop properties for older and disabled people. The government opened bidding for the first phase of the £300m fund (CCMn October 2012) last year and now says it has allocated funding to 121 agencies to build 3,500 homes across the country. This fund in part replaces the Extra Care Housing Fund distributed by the Department of Health between 2004/05 to 2010/11, a scheme which gave around £400m during its lifetime. Mr Lamb said: We have awarded companies funding to build more than 3,500 homes around the country. These will be tailored to people’s needs and will help them to remain active as long as possible without the need of going into a care home.’
