Government grants £22m to raise dementia diagnosis rates

Twenty one research projects will get a slice of a £22m government grant to boost dementia diagnosis rates and trial ground breaking treatments. The funding was awarded by the National Institute of Health Research and is designed to cover all areas of scientific activity relevant to dementia, including care, causes, prevention and, ultimately, a cure. The cash comes on top of £66m of research funding announced by the government last spring (CCMn April 2012). Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: To make a real difference to research, government must respond to the barriers the industry faces. It is vital that we can translate the excellent work happening in our laboratories across the country into treatments that can help people live well with dementia today, while ultimately working towards finding a cure.’
